Arizona in many ways is a land of surprising contrast.  Though thought by most as an arid desert, the state offers a stunning variety of flora, fauna and environments.

The perception of Arizona as a sunny state is certainly true however, as low humidity and over 330 days of sunshine a year ensure there's an 86% of a beautiful day each and every day in Arizona.

Natural Beauty

Arizona's fascinating past, both geologically and historically, has given rise to a number of remarkable natural wonders that draw visitors from all over the globe each year.

The Grand Canyon
Grand CanyonA discussion of the natural wonders of this great state must start with the Grand Canyon, the stunning backdrop to countless movies, adventures and memorable vacations.  Carved by the mighty Colorado river over the course of eons, the Grand Canyon is a window into the ancient geological past of our state.  The individual strata within the rock tell stories about the climate, composition and life of countless eras of Arizona's past.  The beauty of this seemingly limitless vista is without match in nature, which is why it draws so many visitors anually.

The Grand Canyon railway offers rail tours to the monument from central Arizona, allowing you to worry about enjoying the countryside rather than mavigating traffic.

The Petrified Forest & Painted Desert
Petrified ForestThe Petrified Forest features one of the world's largest collections of naturally occuring pertified wood in the world.  In addition to the wood itself there are a number of other points of interest within the park including the Agate Bridge (a natural bridge formed over a wash by a petrified log), the Agate House (built from petrified wood) and numerous early indian petroglyph sites.

Additionally the park includes the stunning Painted Desert, a series of hardened sand dunes that turn stunning shades of violet, blue and red as the sun rises and sets over this magnificent park.

The Red Rocks of Sedona

TreesThere are many reasons to spend time in Sedona, whether it's the burgeoning artistic community, the numerous crafstmen that offer their wares there, the countless cultural festivals and musical events, or the number of highly regarded bed and breakfasts.

In truth, it's the stunning Red Rocks of Sedona that draw so many people back to this magical city.  Red sandstone deposits left at the Permian period at the end of the Paleozoic era some 300 million years ago shine bright red in the sun's light and give the entire city a mystical, magical backdrop.
